Illuminating Candles Have Become Focal Points in Designing a Room

candlesCandles once only served one purpose and that was illumination. Today, according to the National Candle Association, “consumers are increasingly purchasing candles as a focal point for their home décor and for the aromatherapy-like relaxation and stress reduction.”

Among the principal retail outlets for candle purchases are specialty stores and gift shops.  Additionally, candles are always a welcome gift, gender neutral item that generates repeat sales and customer traffic.  The primary quality that drives candle sales is the fragrance and next is the candle holder.

Candle manufacturers are constantly blending, creating and refining fragrances in order to satisfy the thousands of different tastes consumers have for different aromas to help them relax or to help energize them depending on the fragrance they’ve chosen.  The combination of different floral, spices and fruits creates notes that enhance the atmosphere of the home and can help create different moods or introduce relaxation to help reduce stress.

Candle fragrances often follow food trends with green tea and pomegranate the most recent popular food related fragrances.  There are also trends of fragrances from the cocktail hour such as martinis, cosmopolitans and various wines.

According to Gifts & Decorative Accessories magazine, there are four particular elements that candle makers are looking to – besides fragrance – in order to have their candles stand out from the rest of the pack.  These elements are packaging, containers, runway fashion ties and eco-consciousness.

Candle makers package their candles for presentation because when a person receives a gift, it is the package that makes the first impression, and a special gift box can give a simple candle a more upscale, luxury appearance even with a moderate price point.

Some candle vendors are approaching their candle containers as a decorative accessory and therefore fitting a home décor is a consideration especially for self purchase.

With food and florals so predominant in the candle creations, some manufacturers are looking to the catwalk for inspiration and something a little different.

As it is with everywhere else, being green is important to the candle world as well.  Shifting from the petroleum-based paraffin to vegetable-based waxes has now moved on to a more organic recipe and reusable or recyclable containers.

Science Disputes Human Growth Hormone as a Wonder Drug for Athletes

human growth hormoneBecause of the Internet and many different marketing methods, the drug human growth hormone or HGH has been touted as making people faster, stronger, better looking and even healthier, however science does not always support these facts.  What the facts tell us is that HGH helps relatively few people including some AIDS patients, tuberculosis patients, elderly people and people whose natural production of the pituitary hormone severely diminished either from a tumor or a birth defect.  This list does not include Olympians, future Hall of Famers or athletic superstars.

Natural human growth hormone or HGH is produced by the pituitary gland which is the size of a grape and located at the base of the brain. Its main job is to help growing children by producing bone, cartilage and muscle.  Around the age of 20, the pituitary gland stops production.

In the early 1980s several scientists found that they could give supplemental human growth hormone to men in their 60s and 70s to increase skin elasticity and muscle mass while at the same time reducing body fat and minimizing bone loss.  Some of these scientists spoke to the world about their findings as a “fountain of youth” and that HGH could turn back the clock 10 to 20 years.

When considering taking human growth hormones, one must consider the HGH side effects.  Several of the HGH side effects include Corporal Tunnel Syndrome, joint pain and arthritis like symptoms which could lead to obesity because of inactivity from the pain, insulin resistance which could lead to diabetes, bloating, headaches, muscle pain, high blood pressure, abnormal growth of internal organs and bones, hardening of the arteries and several other health issues that have yet to be determined because long-term use of HGH is still being studied for its side effects.

Scientists warn against using the HGH pill form found on the Internet because the acid in one’s stomach renders the human growth hormone ineffective.  A licensed physician or nurse practitioner who would inject human growth hormones would be the only viable solution to receiving proper HGH.

The Internet has increased the ease of which people may obtain human growth hormones without a prescription; however most of the HGH found on the Internet is a “watered down” version that cannot hold a candle to what a physician could prescribe.  People waste their money by purchasing human growth hormones through the Internet not knowing if what they are receiving is healthy or harmful to their bodies.

There is very little scientific evidence that human growth hormones increase an athlete’s size and makes them stronger.  Larger does not always equal stronger.  However, many athletes swear by HGH in that it has helped increase their endurance helping them to achieve greater glory on the field.
